Norway Rats
Norway rats or also known as sewer rats. They are the ones you may see in overfull dumpsters. They can get rather large brown, bigger and not as athletic as Roof rats. Norway rats have absolutely taken over Seattle and the Puget sound cities. They can cause havoc in your crawl and attics. is A single rat can produce 50 droppings per day.
Females produce 3 to 6 litters per year, and each litter can have from 6 to 12 offspring. Norway rats live in burrows in the ground and can also damage your property.
Roof Rats
Roof rats are the more athletic rats. They are slender, great climbers allowing them to scale homes and structures very easily. Their diets contain more fruits and nuts.
Female roof rats have the ability to produce up to 40 new offspring in one year. These rats generally prefer sheltered or covered areas and structures. They are commonly getting into upper structures of buildings and homes, but they will also infest anywhere that they can gain access. Roof rats are attracted to lush landscapes, dense vegetation, fruit trees and garden areas.
Deer mice
Deer mice have gray to red fur on their backs and white on the underside. They are known to be carriers of the hantavirus which is very dangerous to humans. They are more prevalent in homes near wooded areas and lots of vegetation. They can have up to 4 litters a year and between 3 to 5 mice per litter. The house mouse can be found pretty much anywhere all year around. They transmit disease through urine and droppings. They love browsing through pantries and snack draws. They will pretty much eat anything. They are prolific breeders. Populations can get out of hand in a hurry. They have up to 8 litters a year, and between 5-8 offspring each litter.
Western Harvest Mouse
Nocturnal animals known for burrowing in tunnel runways. They have a light brown color with a light belly and feet. Ears are large and hairless. They have up to 9 offspring per litter and are breeding throughout the year. They love to eat seeds, plants and insects. They are a common garden pest. Believe it or not, an adult mouse can squeeze through a hole 1/4 of an inch making them extremely difficult to keep out.
